Places we saw on Day 2

After leaving Madrid, and driving down the A4 we had been told to look out for Quixote country. The A4 was wonderfully full of highway restaurants and gas stations. This was reassuring and we happily noted that our Beemer (yes, we had a BMW...what a surprise!)was getting good mileage, as the Hertz clerk suggested it would.

We turned off to Puerto Lapiece and entered our first small but lovely little town.Does anyone know these two men?? Men of La Mancha

It seemed a good time for a coffee and perhaps a pastry.

Back on the road, we had been told to try and stop in Jaen and either eat at the parador or just have coffee. Lunch it would be. Please see Lunch at Jaen for details of this stop.

After a bit of circumnavigation of Jaen, we stopped for diesel, and asked for directions after an 'interesting' unexpected detour that involved a lot of hairpin turns. We were sent off to Cabra , and the sun was now almost set. Yes, the signs to the A45 were there, turn here, turn there, turn here, and suddenly after a turn that made us realize we were not on the right path, dh had a look of panic that was spotted by a police car passing us. I suspect I just looked stunned. The police car backed up, we backed up and with a exchange of Spanish and English - Malaga???, the policeman motioned for us to follow him. We left Cabra with a police escort, and found ourselves, eventually, on the A45 south to Malaga. God bless the Cabra police on a Saturday night.

Finally onto the A7, and we put our heads on our pillows in Estepona.
